Salwa Sunanda, the original ace of KLP48, has stirred up quite the debate among fans from Malaysia and Indonesia.
Discussions have been heating up over her ethnic background, with some fans saying she represents the Malay community, while others believe she’s part of Malaysia’s Indian community.
Malaysia, known for its multi-ethnic population of Malays, Chinese, and Indians, has always showcased this diversity.
KLP48, in particular, mirrors this with members coming from various ethnic backgrounds.
For a while, many assumed that Salwa was the Malay representative within the group, but whispers also circulated that she could be of Indian descent.
During a recent TikTok live session, Salwa finally decided to set the record straight.
She revealed that her mother is ethnically Chinese Malaysian, while her father belongs to the Sinhala ethnic group, which is a part of Malaysia’s Indian community.
The Sinhala people, she explained, are originally from Sri Lanka, but her father’s family has been rooted in Malaysia for generations – long before the country gained independence.
Salwa’s clarification has now put an end to the ongoing fan debates, confirming that she’s a mix of Chinese and Sinhala Malaysian.
This announcement also highlighted the fact that KLP48’s first generation doesn’t yet have a Malay representative, leaving fans hopeful for a future addition.
With this revelation, many are eager to see whether future generations of KLP48 will include the long-awaited Malay member that some fans have been hoping for. The anticipation is certainly building!
