Li Gengxi Responds to Golden Rooster Awards Controversy

Young actress Li Gengxi has addressed the controversy surrounding her Best Actress win at the 37th Golden Rooster Awards.

In a recent interview, the 24-year-old showed maturity and openness, welcoming both positive and negative public opinions.

Her win for the film Viva la Vida made her the first actress born in the 2000s to receive the prestigious award, sparking widespread debate.

Speaking on the controversy, Li said, "It’s normal. There will always be someone better than us. The key is knowing ourselves. They are who they are, and I am who I am."

She also emphasised her acceptance of criticism, stating, "I cannot stop others from expressing their opinions. It’s their right."

Li’s win, announced on 16 November, drew praise for her performance but also stirred debates about age and experience in the industry.

In her acceptance speech, she thanked everyone involved in the film, reflecting on the hard work that led to the achievement.

Despite the backlash, Li’s poised response has earned her respect, demonstrating her readiness to navigate the challenges of stardom.

The Golden Rooster Awards, one of China’s most prestigious film events, highlighted Li's growing influence as a new generation of talent in cinema.
