Japanese pop legend Ayumi Hamasaki is ringing in her 27th anniversary in the most Ayu way possible—by dropping a brand-new digital single titled “mimosa.” And nope, it's not just another tune to add to your playlist. This one’s got meaning, nostalgia, and a bit of sparkle.
The song serves as the official theme for the Fuji TV Monday 9PM drama “Zoku Zoku Saigo kara Nibanme no Koi”—which loosely translates to “The Second to Last Love, Again... Again.”
This is a pretty big deal, as it’s the first time in 25 years that Ayu’s returned to that iconic Monday drama. The last time she did that was with her beloved 2000 hit “SEASONS” for the drama “Tenki Yohou no Koibito.”
So yeah, it’s not just a song—it’s a full-circle moment.
The music video for “mimosa” is already out and it’s basically an emotional trip through Ayu’s career.
Picture this: Ayumi walking through a dreamy space filled with the covers of her past releases. It’s like a time capsule where she gently reminds us she’s not just a pop star—she’s a living archive of Japanese music history.
But the connection with the drama isn’t a one-off either. She’s actually been the voice behind all three seasons of the series. Back in 2012, she gave us “How Beautiful You Are.”
Then in 2014, it was “Hello New Me.” Now in 2025, we’re getting “mimosa” to tie it all together. A full trilogy of emotions, if you will.

Talking about her involvement, Ayumi said, “I feel truly honoured to provide the theme song once again, following ‘How Beautiful You Are’ and ‘Hello New Me.’ Over the years, some things change and some stay the same—this song reflects both sides of life. I hope it resonates with those who’ve followed the drama from the start and those hearing me for the first time.”
Written by her long-time collaborator Kunio Tago, who’s also behind classics like “Days” and “Key - eternal tie ver.,” “mimosa” brings the kind of heartfelt melody that lifts your spirits without hitting you over the head with emotion. It’s soft, sincere, and a little bit magical.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Ayumi Hamasaki is also gearing up for her long-awaited Ayumi Hamasaki ASIA TOUR 2025 “I am Ayu -epi.II-”, which kicks off on 8 April in Japan.
While the rest of the tour dates haven’t been revealed yet, fans across Asia (and maybe beyond?) can start prepping their glow sticks and tissues.
So yeah, Ayu's back—not that she ever left.
“mimosa” isn’t just a song. It’s a reminder that even after nearly three decades, Ayumi Hamasaki still knows exactly how to touch hearts, break records, and write the soundtrack to our lives.
