GACKT Responds to ‘Egashira 2:50’ Chaos: "What's the Fuss?"

GACKT has shared his thoughts on the recent uproar caused by comedian Egashira 2:50’s wild antics during the TBS show "All-Star Kanshasai '25 Spring".

The singer posted a detailed response on X (formerly Twitter) on April 2nd, reflecting on the March 29 broadcast, which saw Egashira causing a stir by chasing after actress Mei Nagano, causing her distress and shedding tears.

The scene sparked a flurry of reactions across social media.

Egashira, known for his unorthodox comedic style, was seen in a live appearance at the event, where he energetically “attacked” fellow stars one by one, eventually chasing Mei Nagano, which led to the actor being restrained by host Koji Imada and staff members.

The scene, which left Nagano Mei visibly shaken, was widely discussed online, with many expressing their concerns.

The next day, Egashira posted an apology on his official YouTube channel, apologising to Mei Nagano if she felt hurt and taking full responsibility for the incident, stating that TBS was not to blame.

Meanwhile, the show’s official X account also clarified that Egashira’s segment would not be available for replay on TVer, acknowledging that certain aspects of his behaviour were deemed inappropriate.

GACKT, however, was more reflective in his comments.

"Well, I’m not sure about all of this, but Egashira has always been known for that type of performance," he wrote.

"The other actors were aware of his style, and so was the production team. The reactions of the cast were just part of the show."

He further added, “In variety shows, it's natural that different people react in different ways. So why is it so strange when people start debating who’s right or wrong? Why are viewers reacting so sensitively? Are they truly concerned about who's to blame, or is it more about wanting to make someone the villain?"

GACKT also touched on a broader issue, referencing the criticism celebrities faced during the pandemic.

“Many entertainers were unfairly targeted back then, and it seems like some people are still carrying that frustration around,” he said.

“It’s a strange thing to witness.”

His comments offer a more nuanced perspective on the incident, questioning society’s tendency to quickly pick sides and pointing out the lingering effects of societal pressures.
