Japanese Rapper and Producer JJJ Dies at 35

Japanese rapper, producer, and DJ JJJ has sadly passed away at the age of 35. The news was officially confirmed by Space Shower Music, who announced that he died on 13 April at a hospital in Tokyo.

The cause of JJJ's death has not been publicly disclosed. The announcement made by Space Shower Music only mentioned his passing at a hospital in Tokyo, without providing further details regarding the cause.

Born in 1989 in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, JJJ — whose real name was not made public — was a pioneering voice in Japan’s underground hip-hop scene.

Known for his introspective lyrics and genre-blending sound, JJJ began his career as a member of the group Fla$hBackS alongside Febb as Young Mason and KID FRESINO.

The trio made their debut in February 2013 with the album FL$8KS, quickly earning attention for their raw and authentic approach to hip-hop.

JJJ continued to expand his creative range, releasing his solo debut album Yacht Club in 2014, followed by HIKARI in 2017.

He was not only a rapper but also an innovative beatmaker and producer. From 2019 to 2021, he released a series of digital singles including flame, loops, STRAND (featuring KEIJU), and Cyberpunk (featuring Benjazzy).

His third full-length album MAKTUB was released in 2023 to critical acclaim, further solidifying his reputation as a sonic visionary.

In January 2024, he dropped his latest single Kids Return, which many fans now see as a hauntingly reflective farewell.

Space Shower Music extended its heartfelt thanks to all the fans, collaborators, and industry figures who supported JJJ throughout his journey.

They expressed deep sorrow at the loss and described him as someone who left an indelible mark on the Japanese music landscape.

Details about ticket refunds for his now-cancelled the light tour and other live events will be shared soon.

Organisers apologised for the disruption and thanked fans for their understanding during this difficult time.

In line with the wishes of JJJ’s family, his funeral will be a private ceremony held with only close relatives in attendance.

Fans have taken to social media to share messages of love and gratitude, many noting how JJJ’s work inspired them personally.

While his voice may now be silent, his music will continue to resonate with those who found truth and beauty in his sound.

JJJ’s artistry defied easy labels — blending jazz, soul, lo-fi, and gritty beats with thought-provoking verses.

He was a creative force who didn’t just follow trends, but set his own path. His impact on Japan’s music scene, especially within hip-hop, will be felt for generations to come.
