Lin Gengxin and Shi Ruiyi Spark Rumours of Dating and Living Together

Chinese internet went abuzz after paparazzi footage suggesting that actor Lin Gengxin and Shi Ruiyi might be living together trended on Weibo today, 15 April.

The hashtag “#林更新与史芮伊疑似同居” (Lin Gengxin and Shi Ruiyi Suspected of Living Together) quickly rose to the top of the trending charts.

In short clips uploaded by paparazzi accounts, Lin was seen having dinner with a woman believed to be Shi Ruiyi. After their meal, he drove her home—raising eyebrows and fuelling the living-together speculation.

The original post added a cheeky caption: “Lin Gengxin and Miss Shi are clearly together! What are fans still hoping for? These videos were taken at the end of March.”

Adding to the buzz, fans recalled how Lin was rumoured to have bought flowers around the same time—reportedly for Shi Ruiyi. 

This detail didn’t go unnoticed by netizens, many of whom welcomed the potential relationship.

One fan commented, “Lin Gengxin is constant, while internet celebs keep changing. They’ve been going strong since 2013. Looks serious.” 

Another gushed, “Shi Ruiyi was Nanyi Academy’s school beauty! 173 cm tall, stunning visuals. She suits Lin Gengxin perfectly!”

Shi Ruiyi, born in 1999, gained some attention for joining Produce Camp, though she didn’t debut. Still, her beauty and charm have clearly left a lasting impression.

However, not everyone’s buying it. One user raised doubts, stating, “That video was from years ago. Lin and Shi already broke up. The flower-buying footage wasn’t even him—the poster admitted it was a mistake.”

Curiously though, a check of the paparazzi account on Weibo revealed no apology or clarification about the alleged misidentification.

Lin and Shi have remained tight-lipped, never publicly confirming nor denying the dating rumours. Despite being photographed together several times over the years, the pair’s relationship status has always been a mystery.

The whispers have reopened wounds among fans who once hoped Lin Gengxin might rekindle a romance with actress Zhao Liying. 

Their on-screen chemistry in "The Legend of Shen Li" stirred real-life shipping, with some still holding onto the hope of a fairytale romance.

But those dreams were quickly dashed with the new footage. One Weibo post summed up the heartbreak: “The school beauty wins again. Lin Gengxin has moved on. CP fans need to wake up.”

Some were quick to defend their fantasy. 

“If they were truly dating, why did Zhao Liying marry Feng Shaofeng in the first place?” a fan questioned. 

Another weighed in: “Zhao Liying wouldn’t go for someone like Lin. Too flirty. She knows better.”

Yet others argued the opposite. “Honestly, Lin is out of Zhao’s league now. Between a 25-year-old school beauty and a 36-year-old divorced mum, most would choose the former.”

Interestingly, observers have pointed out Lin’s fondness for bunny-themed clothing, once believed to be hints of affection for Zhao Liying (whose zodiac sign is the Rabbit). 

But now, fans wonder if it was actually a subtle nod to Shi Ruiyi, who shares the same zodiac.

As one fan speculated, “They’ve likely been together for two or three years. Seems serious. Maybe they’ll announce something soon?”

Still, some maintain a cautious stance, noting that public figures often maintain close friendships or even engage in ‘relationship marketing’ to boost their profiles.

“Only they know what’s really going on,” a user commented. “It could be love, friendship, or even just business.”

Whether it’s real or a carefully curated illusion, this rumour has stirred fresh excitement and heartbreak in equal measure.
