Love Story in the 1970s has officially cast Arthur Chen Feiyu and Sun Qian as the leads, and fans are already buzzing about their retro drama set against the backdrop of the 1970s.

Based on Meng Zhong De Yi’s novel, the drama brings to life the nostalgic charm of the past with sepia-toned visuals that immediately transport us back to a time long gone.

In the drama, Chen Feiyu plays Fang Muyang, a young man who finds himself caught up in an accident while trying to save someone.

It’s his schoolmate, Fei Ni (played by Sun Qian), who steps in to care for him.

But Fei Ni has bigger dreams – she’s determined to make it to university.

Sadly, her hopes of gaining a university recommendation through her good deed are dashed time and time again.

Faced with the harsh realities of life, Fei Ni turns to an unexpected solution.

To help her brother sort out accommodation after his upcoming marriage, Fei Ni proposes a “fake” marriage to Muyang – with separate rooms, of course.

The two unlikely “couple” manage to find a home of their own, but their living arrangement is far from ordinary.

They sleep in bunk beds and deal with everyday struggles, but through it all, they find themselves drawn closer to one another.

Set in the 1970s, Love Story in the 1970s takes us on a journey through Fei Ni’s dreams of breaking free from her life as a hat factory worker.

She longs to change her destiny through education.

Her classmate, Fang Muyang, is a hero in his own right, having saved people from harm, and his bond with Fei Ni grows when she offers to care for him.

The two face reality together, and through the twists and turns of life, their fake marriage turns into something much more.

As they help each other pursue their dreams, Fei Ni finally makes it to university, and Muyang begins to realise his passion for painting.

Despite the struggles, their bond grows, and so does their romance – a gentle, warm love that blossoms through shared experiences.

In the end, both Fei Ni and Fang Muyang move toward the future they’ve always dreamed of, and their love story, born from a marriage of convenience, becomes a testament to the beauty of unexpected connections.
