The Japanese entertainment world has been left in shock following the heartbreaking news that actor Mizuki Itagaki has passed away.
His family confirmed the news today, 17 April, via a quiet and emotional post on Instagram Stories.

The 24-year-old had been missing since late January, with close friends and police tirelessly searching for him over the past few months.
His body was recently found in Tokyo, and according to the family, his death was the result of an unforeseen accident.
Though details remain private, it’s been widely known among close circles that Mizuki had been battling mental health struggles before his disappearance.
Despite this, his family shared that he had been aiming for a fresh comeback in acting—something he deeply loved and never gave up on.
“Itagaki was working hard towards returning to the screen,” the family wrote, expressing their grief and thanking fans and colleagues for their unwavering support. “We hope everyone remembers him with warmth.”
Born on 25 October 2000 in Tokyo, Mizuki Itagaki started his career young after being scouted.
He shot to fame with his standout role as Kazuhiko Kanbara in the 2015 film Solomon’s Perjury, earning the New Actor Award from the Japan Film Critics Association.
From there, he became a familiar face in both films and dramas, including several historical pieces for NHK.
His quiet charisma and emotional range quickly made him one of Japan’s most promising young talents.
Earlier last year, in April 2024, he had officially parted ways with Stardust Promotion, his long-time agency. But he made it clear that acting was still his dream, and he was ready to explore new paths.
Sadly, life had other plans.
His family have now chosen to speak publicly about his passing, in hopes of providing closure to those who loved him from afar.
“He’s at peace now,” one friend shared online.
