The First Frost Movie Gets New Cast, Fans Divided

The First Frost’ Movie Gets New Cast, Fans Divided

Looks like The First Frost is coming back—but not quite the way fans expected.

The fan-favourite story of Sang Yan and Wen Yifen is heading to the big screen, but with an entirely new cast.

That’s right, Zhang Ruonan and Bai Jingting won’t be reprising their iconic roles in the film version.

Cue the heartbreak.

This announcement, made recently during a content showcase event, stirred up strong reactions across social media.

The hit series, known for its heartfelt storyline and emotional depth, built a solid fanbase partly thanks to the chemistry between its lead actors.

But it looks like the film team has decided to go in a completely different direction.

Bai Jingting had actually hinted at this move before.

In a past interview, the 31-year-old actor admitted he’s starting to feel out of place playing high schoolers.

And since The First Frost explores Sang Yan and Wen Yifen’s relationship from their school days, it kind of makes sense why he wouldn’t return for the remake.

Behind the scenes, producers also shared concerns about typecasting.

With both Bai and Zhang rising in popularity, keeping them in the same roles could limit their future opportunities.

By choosing fresh faces, the production hopes to strike gold again and maybe even uncover the next big names in the industry.

Still, fans are torn.

Some say they’ll miss the original cast dearly, while others are already fan-casting their own dream line-ups.

Newcomers have big shoes to fill, and expectations are sky-high.

Another worry?

How the film plans to tackle the original drama’s depth in just a couple of hours.

The First Frost wasn’t just about sweet glances and quiet longing—it dove deep into growth, emotional wounds, and the push-and-pull of love over time.

Condensing that into a feature film without it feeling rushed or shallow is going to be a serious challenge.

Not to mention, the movie’s being developed alongside its sister drama Hidden Love, which is also being turned into a film.

So all eyes are on how the creative team pulls both stories off—especially when the bar has been set so high by the original shows.

Whether this move will be a refreshing reboot or an unfortunate flop remains to be seen. For now, all we can do is hope the story we love finds new life on the silver screen, even with new faces telling it.
